What inspired you to pursue an internship with Didion?
I grew up in a milling area all of my life, so there was already a connection to the industry. Also, I was thrilled to hear that the role worked on tasks that were important for the whole team, as opposed to some one-off projects that are assigned to interns that I hear about in other industries. I’m really drawn towards Didion’s sustainable practice, too, where we are able to use the whole kernel of corn without any waste.
What is your main focus as an Accounting Intern?
Currently, I support the accounts payable section of accounting as well as ethanol sales.
How does your experience compliment your studies?
My experience with Didion really serves as the bridge between accounting in the classroom and accounting in the real world. My classes built a foundation of conceptual knowledge of accounting principles and I now I am able to translate that into real business operations here at Didion.
What have you enjoyed the most about your internship with Didion?
I’ve enjoyed the responsibility that I have within the accounting team. During my internship at Didion, I am working on meaningful tasks that have deadlines each month and I really feel like a part of the larger team that provides timely and accurate information for the company.
What new trainings/skills have you acquired through your experience?
So far, I have acquired new skills through working in our ERP systems which had been entirely new to me on my first day. Additionally, I have gained new communication and digital document management skills since I have been able to work almost entirely from my apartment during COVID.
Looking ahead to the future, what are your career goals?
I have recently been accepted into a Master of Accountancy program at UW-Madison that will take place right after undergrad and I hope to attain my CPA designation shortly after.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
I’m probably going to go with supreme Jack’s frozen pizza. I mean, they have some veggies on top, and I’ve already been doing it for the last 3 years at college, so I think I could go another 30 at least.
