The Mill Plant Manager is a leadership role that is critical in leading all operational activities, functions, and teams of the milling facility across multiple shifts to deliver the highest levels of safety, quality, customer satisfaction and production efficiency, in the production of grain based food products. The Mill Plant Manager is cross-trained in multiple tasks to increase contributions to the organization, enhance production flexibility and readiness, as well as supporting innovation initiatives. The Mill Plant Manager will provide job enrichment and growth opportunities to all levels of team members. This role also is exempt working a general Monday-Friday day shift with expectations for flexibility for business needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Personal and Work Environment SAFETY is achieved through:

  • Development and ownership of all aspects the Milling Plant Safety Culture. Safety Maturity is advanced through constant development of safe behaviors, procedures and systems.
  • Commitment to follow all safety procedures, GMP’s, performs risk assessments prior to commencing an unfamiliar task, seek to identify and implement proactive safety improvements, and use PPE when required such as: chemical handling, hearing protection, lock-out tag-out, harnesses, respiratory masks, etc.
  • Ensure compliance to highest level of food safety not limited to filling in the appropriate documentation like return to service checklists, etc.
  • Absolute adherence to safety procedures with use, inspection, and care of vehicles, equipment, and tools to include test equipment, lab equipment, industrial trucks, production equipment and man lifts.

  • Committed and unfailing management support through leadership of all mill facility departments and teams; the Mill Plant Manager will be responsible for improved levels of safety, quality, productivity, inventory management, and cost control through creating and executing a unified vision for the site resulting in production of a high quality product on time to our customers’ specifications and expectations.
  • Set strategy, KPIs, and deliverables for continuous improvement as well as ensure compliance with by establishing and overseeing plant sanitation, quality, and safety standards.
  • Oversight and leadership of all mill facility teams in all activities across all shifts including development of plans for the maximum utilization of materials, machines, and employees and the use of raw material inventory to ensure operation standardization and optimization in regards to KPI’s, yield, and OEE.
  • Consistently review production costs and product quality; modify production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of division; also develop and recommend plant capital and operating budgets and ensure conformance to budgets.
  • Proactively review SKU specific production plan to ensure viability of the plan, and validate that resources are adequately deployed to deliver it.
  • Unfailingly use Root Cause Analysis (RCA,) Failure Mode and Equipment Analysis (FMEA,) and Fishbone processes to prevent future or recurring failures in systems; ensures timely corrective actions and closures through effective delegation to team.
  • Conducts team member and production meetings as necessary to discuss plant and shift performance as well as trouble shooting issues. General oversight of implementation of corrective actions identified occur.
  • Embraces and uses technology to drive more efficient operation of the plant. General oversight that team is fully trained and utilizing available technology.
  • Review milling plant’s needs and confer with technical or administrative staff to resolve issues.
  • Complete all reports and data collection forms in a timely manner as needed to report out to appropriate parties on key metrics.
  • Direct collaboration with Mill Production Manager, Mill Maintenance Manager, and Quality Assurance Manager ensuring they are successfully leading teams and delivering on key job duties.

  • Ensure that milling facility’s materials, labor and equipment are used efficiently.
  • Collaborate with Mill Production Manager and Maintenance Department on recommendations of procedures for facility and equipment maintenance or modification, including the replacement of machines.
  • A proactive commitment to growing and expanding skill set through training and education leading toward expert competency in use of milling technologies, Mapcon, leadership, development of team members, scheduling and planning, understanding department budget, superior communication skills, and professionalism.

REQUIREMENTS to help ensure success include:

To qualify for this position, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the desired job outcomes. Specific requirements include:

  • A Bachelor degree in a related engineering discipline or a related field required; a Masters Degree is a plus, but not required; equivalent work experience in lieu of degree may be considered.
  • Hands on experience in an industrial manufacturing environment required. Experience in a similar dry food manufacturer environment highly desired.
  • 10 years overall related manufacturing experience; 5 years of progressive experience successfully leading operations teams including demonstration of excellent interpersonal skills including communication, conflict resolution, and development of people; willingness to seek continuing education toward development of leadership abilities.
  • Experience in ERP applications and processes, CMMS systems, Project Planning, and OEE systems preferred.
  • Experience in using data to drive production planning and performance measurement coupled with strong knowledge of the technical areas of the plant or manufacturing process is required.
  • Experience developing & managing operating budgets and plant CapEx programs.
  • Experience enforcing appropriate quality and safety measures to comply with state, federal, and industry regulations within the food industry.
  • Experience with continuous improvement and lean methodologies. Green belt preferred.
  • Experience working with supervisory team managing staffing/headcount and successful employee relations.
  • Advanced critical thinking and troubleshooting skills to be used for strategic planning in leading mill facility and its team toward efficient completion of goals.
  • Must be skilled at solving practical problems and dealing with variables to be an effective project manager.
  • Essential personal attributes include: professional, ethical, passionate, participative and inclusive leadership style, strong communication skills, creative, and solutions-oriented.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently in order to communicate effectively with team members within and external to maintenance department. Spanish skills desired.
  • Previous experience working in a High Performance Work Place (HPWP) preferred.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, possess the ability to relocate if necessary to near plant facility, and have the desire to develop themselves for advancement within the company.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIROMENTAL FACTORS

  • Must be able to work in environmental factors that include noise, dust, hot weather, and cold weather.
  • Must be able to lift 55 pounds.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs, ladders, and gangways on a frequent basis and be able to work while standing on a continuous basis.
  • Ability to safely work aloft (heights over 20’) including ladders, man lifts, harnesses, equipment tops and scaffolding.
  • Ability to enter confined spaces, following all safety procedures, while in performance of job duties.
  • Must be able to communicate by using and hearing 2-way radio.
  • Have dexterity and ability to maneuver equipment in tight working spaces.
