The Markesan Production Manager is a critical leadership role whose focus is leading all operational activities, functions, and teams of the Markesan facility across multiple shifts to deliver the highest levels of safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and production efficiency in the production of grain and soy based food products. The Markesan Production Manager is cross-trained in multiple tasks to increase contributions to the organization, enhance production flexibility and readiness, as well as supporting innovation initiatives. This role will serve as a key support function for the Markesan Plant Manager and will actively manage day to day operations. The Markesan Production Manager will provide job enrichment and growth opportunities to all levels of team members. This role also is salaried generally working a Monday-Friday day shift with expectations for flexibility for business needs. Position is required to work hours that allow them to be influencing all shifts, most time is spent on days and weekend work as required occasionally.

  • Committed and unfailing production leadership support through leadership of Markesan production team; Markesan Production Lead will be responsible for leadership and development of all Markesan production team members and is integral to executing the production schedule to produce a high quality product that’s shipped on time to our customers’ specifications and expectations.
  • Assist Plant Manager in leading production team in all activities across all shifts based on analysis of current budget, metrics, and needs of mill to result in minimal unplanned down time and a high levels of production.
  • Work with Plant Manager to reviews processing schedules and production orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, and duty assignments. Adjust production schedules to fulfill production needs as needed.
  • Responsible for reporting monthly inventory levels to Plant Manager and Purchasing partner. Assist Plant Manager in overseeing purchasing duties for production supplies including but not limited to film, cartons and raw products such as oil.
  • Work with Plant Manager to ensure that department staffing and product scheduling are adequate to meet company and customer needs.
  • Conducts team member meetings as necessary to discuss plant and shift performance as well as trouble shooting production issues. Ensures that implementation of corrective actions identified occur.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships and communication with Shift Leads resulting in success on all shifts which also includes filling in Shift Leads as needed.
  • Build and lead the rhythm and discipline for running the Markesan plant operations so each shift runs flawlessly and uniformly which will include:
    • Consistent shift change rhythm
    • Consistent start up and shutdown rhythm
    • Consistent training routine for all shifts’ team members
    • Consistent presence on the production floor that provides support and visibility to production process and team
  • Record and analyze daily production numbers to ensure all OEE numbers are meeting and exceeding daily targets; make suggestions and lead RCAs when they are not within targeted numbers.
  • Work with Plant Manager to monitors results of all Root Cause Analysis and then audit activities to ensure timely corrective actions and closures through effective delegation to team.
  • Continuously ensure all USDA and company documentation related to Markesan’s production is being flawlessly completed and stored out each day
  • Embraces and uses technology to drive more efficient operation of the plant. Ensures that production team is fully trained and utilizing available technology to trouble shoot and successfully operate areas such as unloading, mixing and packaging equipment.

  • Assist Plant Manager in ensuring that Markesan’s production department materials, labor and equipment are used efficiently.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance Department on recommendations of procedures for facility and equipment maintenance or modification, including the replacement of machines.
  • A proactive commitment to growing and expanding skill set through training and education leading toward expert competency in use of production technologies, Maintenance Excellence including proficient use of CMMS, OEE efficiency tracking and analysis, leadership, development of team members, scheduling and planning, understanding department budget, superior communication skills, and professionalism.

REQUIREMENTS to help ensure success include:

To qualify for this position, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the desired job outcomes. Specific requirements include:

  • A technical school or Bachelor degree in engineering, business, or related field highly desired; equivalent work experience or current enrollment in a school program in lieu of degree considered.
  • 5+ years of production experience in an industrial manufacturing environment desired; experience in a similar food safe packaging environment highly desired.
  • Experience successfully leading operations teams including demonstration of excellent interpersonal skills including communication, conflict resolution, and development of people highly desired; willingness to seek continuing education toward development of leadership abilities required.
  • Advanced computer competency required including typing, web browser, and Microsoft Office; advanced competency of Mapcon/ASC software or ability to learn required.
  • Experience in using data to drive production planning and performance measurement coupled with strong knowledge of the technical areas of the plant or manufacturing process is required.
  • Ability to work autonomously using advanced critical thinking and troubleshooting skills to be used for strategic planning in leading production team toward efficient completion of goals.
  • Ability to proactively drive continuous improvement project creation and execution.
  • Demonstrate ownership of job function and production equipment.
  • Demonstrate personal initiative and collaborative, team player approach.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently in order to communicate effectively with team members within and external to production department. Spanish skills a plus.

  • Must be able to work in environmental factors that include noise, dust, hot weather, and cold weather.
  • Must be able to lift 55 pounds.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs, ladders, and gangways on a frequent basis and be able to work while standing on a continuous basis.
  • Ability to safely work aloft (heights over 20’) including ladders, man lifts, harnesses, equipment tops and scaffolding.
  • Ability to enter confined spaces, following all safety procedures, while in performance of job duties.
  • Must be able to communicate by using and hearing 2-way radio.
  • Have dexterity and ability to maneuver equipment in tight working spaces.
